Alan Mutka

Area Head for Web & Mobile Computing BSc and Senior Lecturer at RIT Croatia

Although he holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in Zagreb, Alan has always been drawn to what happens when technology steps out of the lab and into real life. With over 15 years of experience in higher education and applied research, Alan currently serves as a Senior Lecturer and Research Associate at RIT Croatia, where he leads the Web & Mobile Computing program. But beyond the lecture hall, his passion lies in building bridges between research and entrepreneurship. He is the co-founder of two start-ups — Cognitus d.o.o. and Smoothsoft j.d.o.o. — both grounded in a simple but ambitious idea: using advanced technologies to solve real-world problems in innovative and meaningful ways. Whether it’s AI in education, data-driven insights, or visualization tools for robotics and healthcare, his work always aims to connect complexity with clarity.

In his talk, Alan will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping the educational landscape — not just by transforming how we teach, but by fundamentally changing how students learn, think, and create. He will dive into the real challenges educators face in keeping up with fast-moving technologies, and how AI is influencing everything from academic integrity to student motivation. The goal is not just to follow the wave of change, but to understand it — and to shape it with purpose.
